Notes carefully for information about these changes.
There are two new verification and validation documents
for HEC-RAS now available on our web page in the HEC-RAS area. Here is a
short description of each:
- RD-52 HEC-RAS
Verification and Validation Tests (Enclosed in this email)
This is the first ever full blown Verification and Validation document for
HEC-RAS. In this report we compare HEC-RAS to: analytical and text book
data sets; lab studies, and real world flood events with good observed
data. This report covers 1D steady flow; 1D unsteady flow, and 2D
unsteady flow computations. The report verifies that HEC-RAS correctly
solves the equations used in each of these computational frameworks, and it
verifies that HEC-RAS can be used for a very wide range of riverine modeling
conditions. It can aslo be download here:
- RD-51 Benchmarking
of the HEC-RAS Two-Dimensional Hydraulic Modeling Capabilities
This research document
summarizes how the Hydrologic Engineering Center's (HEC) River Analysis System
(HEC-RAS) software performed in the two-dimensional (2D) modeling benchmark
tests developed by the United Kingdom's (UK) Joint Defra (Department for Environmental
Food and Rural Affairs) Environment Agency. This is an updated version of
this report that we previously developed. We re-ran all of the test, plus
one new test, with version 5.0.4 of HEC-RAS. The results are even better
than before, and the HEC-RAS computational speed is much faster than previously
document. This report can be downloaded from our web page at the
following link:
Brilliant, looking forward to giving it a try.
ReplyDeleteAfter downloading, I think that we have to desinstall the "old" one and then reinstall the "new one" ? Right ?
ReplyDeleteNo, you can keep the old one.
DeleteDear all, Do any one face with difficulties to open HECRAS Ras-mapper wizard in the new version of 5.0.4?
DeleteThanks
Regards,
Habtom Mulugeta.
Dear Habtom, It happens the very same thing with my laptop running on Windows 8. RasMapper simply just does not react. Problems with the "Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.1 Full" may be? Don't know.

Dear HECRAS users I download the new vesrion HECRAS 5.0.4, but while try to open the RasMapper wizard its not open, anyone who knows how to fix this thing please share me your idea.
ReplyDeleteThanks
Kind regard,
Habtom Mulugeta
Not me. I've used it on 2 different Windows 10 computers without problems.
DeleteI have the same problem on win7 64-bit computer. But on the win8.1 64-bit computer RasMapper works fine.
DeleteI start HEC-RAS, but RasMapper window doesn't open. The previous version works fine. Maybe new RasMapper requires some libraries which win7 doesn't have?
I have the same problem on win7 64-bit computer. But on the computer win8.1 RasMapper works fine. And it works fine on the another win7 64-bit computer.
DeleteThe previous version of HEC-RAS works fine on the all. Maybe new version of RasMapper requires some different libraries then previous version? And one computer doesn't have them. But I don't know what?
Hello Chris. I'm Alberto from Chile (UCSC Class). I have the same problem, I can not open ras mapper in Windows 7, both for new or old projects.
DeleteHello Chris. I'm Alberto from Chile (UCSC Class). I have the same problem, because I can not open RAS MAPPER on Windows 7 computers. I have tried it with three PCs and I have the same problem.
DeleteSounds like 5.0.4 has some bugs. If you can get a Windows 10 machine, try it there. Otherwise, you may be stuck with the older RAS version until they fix it.
DeleteI have the same problem on windows7 32 bit machine. Does anyone have any ideas? Tks
DeleteHello, With windows 7 updated I have no problems!
DeleteDear, I think Ras mapper of version 5.0.4 HECRAS, has some difficulties to open the wizard at windows 7 computer, if there is any solution for that please let me know.
ReplyDeleteThanks in advance.
I have the same problem on win7 32bit computer. Does anyone have any ideas? tks.
DeleteRAS Mapper in 5.0.4 is now exclusively 64 bit. So if you have a 32 bit computer you’ll unfortunately have to use 5.0.3
DeleteI'm using this new version for flood mapping, but I'm having a hard time of importing the breaklines shapefile to the 2D flow area since the Breaklines Coordinate Table under the Breakline of GIS Tools is not yet activated unless i will draw a breakline for it to activate.
ReplyDeleteHope you can address this question.
Thanks in advance.
Hello Chris. I'm Alberto from Chile (UCSC Class). I have the same problem, I can not open ras mapper in Windows 7, both for new or old projects.
ReplyDeleteI built a 2D model in RAS 5.0.3 and run well. For test purpose, I open the model in Beta RAS 5.0.4, and the model run fine. However, as I open the model in RAS 5.0.4, the geo, flow and plan files look fine. when I start running the model, it gave an error "Mesh '2Darea' was not created successfully". I went back to geometry editor of 2D area, when i start moving points, it gave "Unknown error: Arithmetic operation resulted in an overflow"; I move a 2d cell point for test, it gave "3 face errors detected on the perimeter of the mesh" which i couldn't identify where the errors are like it was shown as red dot in 5.03 and beta 5.04. As i pan around, the number of errors keep changing but not shown in the editor window. Has anybody seen this error before? Thanks for any help!
ReplyDeleteI had a similar issue that I solved recently. RASMapper seemed to be displaying where the face connection errors were located (although erratically). So, I went through and corrected errors as they showed up within RASMapper. This actually didn't seem to correct the problem, but later I replaced all of the GIS outline points in the 2D flow areas editor using excel data formatted as data type "Number." Once I replaced the GIS outline vertices the Geometry Editor immediately recomputed and loaded the 2D mesh without any issues. Unfortunately, I'm not sure which correction caused the desired result, but I am inclined to think it may have been the GIS outline data since Arithmetic overflow errors seem to be related to programs expecting certain data types (like Float) and getting some other data type (like Text) instead.
DeleteIs there an option to perform sediment transport in HEC-RAS 2D yet? I thought that was going to be an option on the new version.
ReplyDeleteNo. Not yet. It’s probably a few years out still.
DeleteI am looking forward for the 2D sediment capabilities of HEC-RAS too. Hope it does not take HEC too long to release.
DeleteI am reading HEC-WAT user manual now. In bench mark 5 it is presented about computational interval. In the manual we can not see much effect from computational interval there. But in my case WSE and velocity change when I change the computational interval n considerable amount while I was using HEC 5.0.3. How to select a reasonable computational interval?
ReplyDeletehec ras automatically close do you have any solution for this?
ReplyDeleteHave your à 64 bits system or only 32 bits system ? The new RASMapper release work on 64 bits system.
Deletehec ras automatically close every time when using this software. what is the solution of this problem?
ReplyDeleteI would like to know if there is a standard overall accuracy for the flood maps generated using HECRAS or the USGS set a standard for the overall accuracy of the flood maps generated using HECRAS. What must be the minimum values of the overall accuracy for flood maps? I will be glad if someone can send me an RRL regarding this one because I've been searching it and i have still nothing to find.
ReplyDeleteAfter a successful run of HEC-RAS 5.04, the Depth, Velocity and WSE layers do not appear on the RAS Mapper screen even though they are written in the results tab of the RAS Mapper window. Can anyone help on this?
